Danny Mayes

A longtime Seattle artist known for vibrant Seattle street scenes, Pacific Northwest landscapes, and his portraits of civil rights leaders and Seattle sports stars. Danny Mayes was born in 1950s Tacoma, and at first perused an interest in boxing; however, he ultimately decided to follow his passion for painting. Mayes received a scholarship to attended the Burnley School of Commercial Art (later the Art Institute of Seattle, closed 2019) where he studied under William "Bill" Cumming. He produced much of his work between 1990-2014, primarily in acrylics and watercolor. Mayes worked with Kirsten Gallery in Seattle's U-District to sell prints and original paintings.
